"Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect." Chief Seattle, 1855
We had a busy first day of Extended Day! Together we talked about why it's important to help the Earth, and shared what interested us in taking this class.
Then, we played a game to illustrate the idea of connectivity within an ecosystem. Check out our web!

We saw that every member of the ecosystem was important -- and could affect the others. |
After our game, each kid made his or her own ecosystem in a jar. We layered gravel and soil, and chose plants. Then we added moss, rocks and water. Later this week, you should be able to start observing the water cycle within the ecosystem (water will evaporate and then condense along the sides of the jar).
Look at the great job they did!
